We are all called to lead, whether at work, in church or even in our own homes.

Leadership Conversations

In Belfast City Vineyard, we believe that everyone gets to play. We all lead in some capacity, whether in church, at work or even in our own homes. To develop some of our leadership skills, we wanted to make some resources available.

These conversations are intended to help us grow and develop in our leadership giftings and callings.  They feature seasoned leaders who have much to say to anyone who wants to lead well where they have been called, as well as those who are discerning a call to leadership.

Episode 1 – Jordan Seng

Today Andy is talking to Jordan Seng.  Jordan and his wife Sonya lead Bluewater Mission in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He is the author of Miracle Work: A Down To Earth Guide To Supernatural Ministries, and recently spoke at LEGACY the Irish Vineyard Churches annual leadership gathering.  You can catch up with those talks here. In this conversation, Andy talks with Jordan about 5 discipleship questions that his local church use over and over again to see people grow in their life with Jesus and their ability to connect with people who are not yet following Jesus.

Episode 2 – Chuck Freeland

Today Andy is talking to Chuck Freeland.  Chuck and his wife Taryn lead Catalyst Vineyard in Aberdeen Scotland.  They also lead the Scottish region for Vineyard Churches UK and Ireland and serve on the National Leadership Group for Vineyard Churches UK and Ireland.  In this conversation, Andy and Chuck talk about vision and innovation, the story of Catalyst Vineyard and how God called them to innovate and change in order to expand and grow.  They also talk about vision and stewarding your personal leadership calling.  Chuck also shares his personal leadership journey and has brilliant wisdom for new leaders and for those who are further along in their journey

Episode 3 – Dr Jason Clark

Today Andy is talking with Dr. Jason Clark.  Jason is married to Bev, and in 1997 they planted Sutton Vineyard which the still co-lead together.  Jason is also an academic, researching and writing in the areas of the church and consumer culture and leads the Leadership and Global Perspectives Doctor of Ministry Degree for Portland Seminary.  Jason has lots of helpful resources on his personal website which is well worth a visit.

In this wide-ranging conversation, Andy and Jason begin with church planting and how you know you might be called to leadership and church planting.  They discuss the relevance and power and necessity of the local church, and his paper “You Don’t Need To Go To Church To Be A Christian And Other Fairy Tales.”   Part of the conversation includes a raw discussion about mental health in the church and for leaders.  They also talk about the importance for theological education for everyone, but especially leaders.  Vineyard Institute, Vineyard Training Platform, and Westminster Theological Centre (with a campus in Lisburn) are just a few of the places mentioned in the interview for those considering going further with theological education.

Episode 4 – Sean Byrne

These conversations are intended to help us grow and develop in our leadership giftings and callings. They feature seasoned leaders who have much to say to anyone who wants to lead well where they have been called, as well as those who are discerning a call to leadership. In this episode, Andy has a conversation with Sean Byrne. Sean is married to Debbie, and together they lead Dublin Vineyard which they planted over 20 years ago. Sean and Andy spent time talking about what God is doing in Ireland in these days, as well as some reflections for leaders on isolation, and how God by His Spirit may be shaping us and preparing us for the future. In that section, Sean talks about the influence Robert Clinton’s book The Making Of A Leader has had on him and his thinking. If you are just exploring leadership or you have been leading over many years, you will benefit from Sean’s thoughts and wisdom.

Enjoy.

Episode 5 – Jason & Michelle Scott

Andy talks with them about always giving your yes to Jesus, their unique story of church planting and now leading two churches. You will grow in your leadership and courage as you listen to them. Michelle also spoke a powerful message at our 2019 Legacy Conference, and you can find that talk through this link.
